Exclude Your Own Visits
FREE plans and above
If you visit your own site frequently, you may want to exclude your visits to avoid inflating your statistics. Web-Stat offers three ways to do this:
1. Use the 'Exclude My Own Visits' Setting (Cookie-Based)
Best for users with few devices or no fixed IP.
Limitations:
- You must enable this setting on every browser and device you use to visit your site.
- YIf you clear your cookies or temporary internet files, the exclusion will stop working and must be re-enabled in the Web-Stat settings panel.
2. Use the 'Exclude IP' Setting (Works Only for Fixed IPs)
This method excludes visits based on your IP address.
Best if you have a fixed (static) IP.
Limitations:
- Most people do not have a fixed IP, as ISPs frequently change them.
- If your IP changes, you must update your exclusion settings.
3. Use the 'Exclusion Code' Setting (URL-Based)
This method uses a special parameter 'wtsx' in your site URL to identify and exclude your visits.
Best for users who clear cookies often or don't have a fixed IP.
How it works:
- Add the exclusion parameter to your site URL once.
- Save the modified URL as a bookmarkfor easy access.
- When Web-Stat detects the exclusion code, it sets a cookie to continue excluding your visits even if you don't use the exclusion code again (unless you clear your cookies).
Example URLs Using the Exclusion Code
To exclude your visits, modify your website URL by adding the parameter:
Example 1: Basic URL with Exclusion Code
Example 2: If Your Site Already Has a Query Parameter
Example 3: If Your Site Uses a Hash (#) in the URL
Important Notes:
- Replace
abc123
with your actual exclusion code. - Once added, your visits will be excluded automatically.
- Bookmark the URL to avoid having to enter the exclusion code manually.
Which Method Should You Use?
Method | Best For | Requires Setup on Each Device? | Works if Cookies Are Cleared? |
---|---|---|---|
'Exclude My Own Visits' (Cookie-Based) | Users with one or two devices, no fixed IP | Yes | No (must reset manually) |
'Exclude IP' | Users with a fixed IP | No | Yes |
'Exclusion Code' (URL-Based) | Users who clear cookies or don't have a fixed IP | Yes (once per device) | No (must use exclusion code again) |
If you're unsure, the exclusion code method is the most flexible and works in most cases.
